Thanksgiving Turkey

This was the first year I've ever cooked a turkey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It wasn't that hard--it turned out good. I didn't try any fancy seasoning or stuffing though. I did baste it with garlic butter. Isn't she beautiful. Behold the golden bird....
Corey made sure he got one of those drumsticks. As soon as the prayer was over he snatched it off the platter and said 'Gotch ya.' He cracks me up.

Skywalker and Mr. Krabs

These are our new family pets. Hermit crabs. The one in the white shell is named Mr. Krabs.
The one in the black and white shell is named Skywalker.

Mr. Krabs is always the first one out and crawling around. He's social.

Skywalker is a scaredy cat. He refuses to come out. We have to be very still and patient.
Hello Mr. Krabs!
Finally, Skywalker started coming out. I stood there holding the camera forever waiting for him to come out. In the meantime, Mr. Krabs almost fell of the table a few times--oops.
Hold your breath.........he's coming out.
Finally!
When they are in their cage they bury themselves in the bark and stay there all day. When I go in after the kids are in bed, they are out and about climbing around. Apparently hermit crabs are nocturnal--we didn't know that and it kind of stinks.

We feed them grapes, pears, and celery leaves. They eat well. We have to spray them with distilled salt water once a day and the bark 2-3 times a day because they need humidity. The first crab Megan bought died because we didn't know what we were doing. I'm still not sure if we know what we are doing, but obviously we are doing better because they've lived for 1 whole month and they are still happy!!

Bitter-'treat'

I was unwrapping some 'unsweetened' chocolate squares for some Thanksgiving baking. Corey saw those huge chocolate blocks and quickly swiped one and tried to make off with it. I caught him before he made his get away--but I didn't scold him, I said 'I guess you can have it.' He was elated at this good fortune. So as he unwrapped it and started to eat, I grabbed the camera........

That's right, get a big bite........

How does it taste?
Blaauk! spit spit spit.....
I need water!!

Random

I enjoy the random posts about nothing imparticular lately. So here are some random things from the Wendel house.....

I just bought this book. We love Newsies at our house. I can already play 3 songs out of it pretty good--and the girls will sing along with me. I think the boys like it, but they don't sing along.

This is my morning routine, hot chocolate with junior mints--to make it minty. mmmmmmmm Thanks Johanna!! Sometimes I will have hot tang instead, but I like the minty chocolate.
These are arguably the best cookies ever invented. I only get to eat them when I run into girl scouts selling cookies. (This is probably why they maintain 'BEST' cookie status--I just don't get to eat them often.) But when I see girl scouts selling cookies they could charge twenty dollars for a box of these and I would happily pay it and call it a donation.

Don't miss it!!!!

I've added several blogs recently that I'm concerned some of you may not have seen my 'O Christmas Tree' post. So, click on 'older posts' at the bottom of the page and find my 'O Christmas Tree' post. It's my tribute to Connecticut--and New England in general.

Retro sheek

I love Jessy's sense of fashion. I thought she looked totally 80's and totally cute this day. Flipped up collar and 1 ponytail on the side--totally 80's!

Chocolate cake--yummmmmm

Megan and Corey and thier friend Angie who lives across the street.

Colors on the Beach

Look at all these natural colors!!! The picture doesn't even do the colors justice. The two 'black' shells on the left are actually a deep indigo--they are purple!! The little green one is a rock and it's not covered with moss. The camera doesn't do justice to the textures either. Most of these are shells but there are a few rocks. All the big ones are shells.
The beach was literally covered with these little shells. Many of them still had little creatures living in them.
I love our kids. These are cute pictures.

Lookin' for crabs. We found alot!! Can you find the crab? His body is about as big as a quarter--probably the biggest one we found that day.

Even though it was October, the weather was unbelievably beautiful. We could have stayed there all day.

The papparrazi's after Jack!!

No cameras!!

Girls gone goth

This is just a cute picture of Jessica and Megan.

HAUNTED HALLOWEEN

This is our favorite pumpkin. It's worty.
Corey was a ghoulish ghost. We cut up a sheet bought a chain.

Megan is a pretty witch. The real witch is behind her only she's dressed as a sea fairy.
I can't really remember what Jack ended up being, but Jessy went 70's.

Oddities?

In response to Annie's question, yes, we have oddities in our house. It's possible that our whole house is an oddity.

1. I hate taking a shower. It's a bother. I would rather stay dirty and spend the time fiddling around on the piano. But, I do shower because it's civil.

2. Jessica loves pizza, pasta, sauce, and meat but wont eat lasagna in any form. If you tell her it's 'Lasagna' her expression goes sober and she sits there depressed like you asked her to eat her grandma. Odd.

3. Corey is just funny--he's odd by definition.

4. Megan always has tons of money. If I need a few bucks I know Megan will have it. I've borrowed from her many times. She even makes change for me when I need quarters or singles. She's an 8yr old in-house loan officer. Odd.

5. There's nothing odd about Jason--that's odd.

6. Jackson will be mad if I point out any of his oddities. Maybe that's odd--no--it's just a bummer.

7. My kids came down stairs this morning as excited as they are on Christmas asking, "Who won? Who's the president?" When I told them it was Obama their faces fell as if I had told them Santa hadn't come. Of course they should be depressed about Obama being President. But election day as exciting as Christmas??? Odd.
